The Sun is a striking stone built 17th century building situated on
the B4518 in the lovely village of St Harmon, linking Rhayader and
Llanidloes. In past times the Sun was a farm and drovers Inn, but is
now primarily a fully licensed function venue and restaurant which
offers B&B accommodation (£27.50 pppn). There is a separate beamed
restaurant, a beamed bar/lounge area with settees around a log
burning fire (lit on cold days) set in a large Inglenook fireplace.
There is also a games room with pool, darts and table soccer. There
is a large car park and an enclosed garden with views across the
River Marteg, the village and the hills beyond. The setting is truly
beautiful - a real gem.
The Sun is an ideal drive out destination, a meeting place and venue
for gatherings of all kinds, whether a family celebration, a
corporate buffet lunch, or just a group of friends who want a place
to eat, drink and make merry. Of note, the Sun hosts the re-fuelling
for the Wales GB rally each year, as well as being a refreshment
stop for numerous vintage car/bike rallies. The Sun is also very
popular with groups of walkers, campers, cyclists, anglers, in fact
anyone interested in outdoor pursuits. With it's stunning location,
it is a favourite haunt for artists and musicians. Owners Martin and
Linda offer a truly personal service and warm welcome to all.
The Sun is open at any time for booked meals and events (Tel:01597
870366). Otherwise, opening hours are subject to seasonal
variations, when there is always food available. There are no set
menus for booked events as Martin and Linda's wide culinary
expertise will provide for any requirement. Top quality ingredients
are always used which are locally sourced wherever possible.
